The Slab Work Is Finally Complete – Episode 6 Of Building a Farmhouse

It has been a while since I have posted an update on the farmhouse build. And I want to apologize for not being able to keep up the posts as the videos are released. I do know that there are people here who do not necessarily watch or follow me on YouTube so I wanted to be sure and share here as well.

And I really do hate that the blog gets put last sometimes, but these can be a little time consuming to put together and sometimes I am just too burnt out to sit and type. So my attempt will be to try and post the “back log” of episodes here in the next few weeks in order to catch up to real time.

However, if you wish to see where we are right now, head on over to the playlist and you can watch them in order from beginning to present.

In the last episode  I shared that we had prepped the area for the concrete slab. And it took a ton of gravel and grading in order for us to do so.

Today however, I will be sharing the pouring of the concrete, which was probably one of the most fascinating things we have experienced on the build to date.

Because of the size of the slab there were going to be areas of the floor plan that a regular cement truck could not reach. So we had to bring in the big guns, a concrete boom truck with a long pump.

This truck has a large arm that is controlled by remote control and extends up and over longer distances in order to get cement into hard to reach places. It was pretty cool to see and it was pretty expensive.

The amazing part was seeing how it all came together and how everyone worked so quickly making sure it did not dry before it was nice and smooth.

Those guys were fast! I was surprised to not see them get in each other’s way as well. They worked very closely together within a space, all performing the tasks at hand and not once did I see them bumping into each other or falling or tripping. It was quite fun to watch.

I also got to see so many cool gadgets and power tools that are used in order to make it happen. There were so many different steps before it got to the leveling and smoothness they were trying to achieve.

I had no idea there were so many steps and so many pieces of equipment that I had never seen before!

And with each step and each piece of equipment they used, they changed the appearance of the cement.

The entire slab was poured in one day and we couldn’t have been happier with the level of service and the finished product in the end.

This was a huge deal for Nelson since he was adamant about having a concrete slab for our home. Unfortunately, this put us over budget as the cost of cement has been consistently high. But we did manage to make adjustments down the road to keep the costs down as we progressed.

We went outside that evening to take a look at the slab and we were so excited that we had our main floor down. It was such a beautiful site for both of us. This was the point where I truly felt we could not back out.

We could only move forward from here.

If you have not seen the B-roll footage it is in the latter part of the video below.

As always we talk you through the process first and then share the B-roll. Nelson was able to catch some drone footage that looks pretty cool as well. I think you may enjoy it.

I will see you back here soon with more.

Until then…. adios! Yami Signature 300x161 The Slab Work Is Finally Complete Episode 6 Of Building a Farmhouse
