Hey friends!

Hope you are all having a great day! I am still trying to only use the things I already have in my home in order to bring you some DIY inspiration.

My wallet (and hubby) are thankful.

For today’s project I am taking some old cording (that I bought several years ago to slipcover a chair… ask me if I made that slipcover ?) in order to make a basket. I am also using some old felt sheets, Dollar Tree leftover rope and a Dollar Tree Christmas container.

Trash to Treasure Rope Basket 2 Trash to Treasure Rope Basket

Since I didn’t have enough white felt sheets, I picked the gray for the bottom and the white for the sides. I cut them accordingly and glued them inside the basket with hot glue.

And I tried to keep the seems as close as possible while I worked my way around.

Once I finished the inside, I moved to the outside and began to hot glue the cording around it.

Trash to Treasure Rope Basket 5 Trash to Treasure Rope Basket

Once I got to just over the middle of the container, I switched it out for some white leftover rope that I had on hand from my decorative sphere DIYs. I only had enough to go around twice so I decided to make a unique pattern.

Trash to Treasure Rope Basket 5 1 Trash to Treasure Rope Basket

I wrapped the white rope around the basket once. Then I added Dollar Tree’s nautical rope (wrapped it twice) and then added another layer of white rope once.

Trash to Treasure Rope Basket 6 Trash to Treasure Rope Basket

After that I used the cording once again, but before I got to the top, I wrapped the handles with thin leather strips (made for jewelry). I glued them on really tightly and and continued to wrap the cording to the top. My main focus was to cover every since bit of red.

Trash to Treasure Rope Basket 7 Trash to Treasure Rope Basket

Finally, I added a bit of cording on the inside of the basket to cover the seams of the felt sheets and make it look more finished.

And that was it!

My basket is complete and I am happy that I had scraps of rope that allowed me to get even more creative! Because of this I was able to make a unique pattern on the basket. Instead of it being just one note, it has more detail and I think it will work great for hand towels.

I am also glad I took the time to do the inside as well. It just makes it look finished.

I have even more trash to treasure ideas in my latest video (at the end of this post). Here are some sneak peaks!

DIY Teapot Planter Makeover

Happy Sunday!

I hope everyone is doing well and if you are a mother, I want to wish you a Happy Mother’s Day!

This week is the last full week of homeschool left. Can I get an “AMEN!?” The kids and I are all looking forward to summer vacation and everything that it will entail. We are ready!

If only this 30 degree nighttime weather would go away!?

Anyways, I wanted to share this fun little makeover that I did to a teapot I bought at Hobby Lobby that was on clearance a while back.

Here is what it looked like when I purchased it. On any other occasion I probably would have walked right by it, but I loved the shape and with the right paint I knew it could be a gem. Plus, it was only $2.19! Who could resist?

DIY Teapot Planter Makeover 1 DIY Teapot Planter Makeover

The first thing I did was clean it with alcohol making sure the surface was as clean as possible. Then I took it outside and gave it several light coats of spray paint. I used Rust-Oleum American Accents Spray Paint which adheres to many surfaces in the color Blossom White.

She was already looking better!

DIY Teapot Planter Makeover 2 DIY Teapot Planter Makeover

But I wanted to take it a bit further and give it a similar look as my Pottery Barn Duped Vases.

So I taped the bottom third of the teapot off with washi tape.

And then I painted the bottom with Martha Stewart’s Tilled Soil.

DIY Teapot Planter Makeover 4 DIY Teapot Planter Makeover

I gave it two coats and then removed the tape.

Then I took this stencil that I purchased at Dollar Tree. It is a flexible stencil so it would work great on a round surface. I liked the little asterisk in the center since it reminded me of a little flower so I taped it off.

DIY Teapot Planter Makeover 5 DIY Teapot Planter Makeover

And using navy blue acrylic paint and a spouncer, I began to stencil the teapot all the way around.

DIY Teapot Planter Makeover 6 DIY Teapot Planter Makeover

I did 3 rows alternating the flower positions but kept the pattern simple. And that was it! I added a faux plant to it with the intention of adding a real one in the future, but before I could decide on the plant, my mom came over and pretty much claimed it as her own. LOL!

Now it’s at her house and she loves it.

I did manage to get some pretty shots after I was done with it  (and it was still in my possession ?).

Looks like I will be on the hunt for another teapot soon. I think it’s darling!

And perfect for anyone wanting that coastal farmhouse look. Just goes to show you don’t always have to pass items up in the store if they are the wrong color (as long as they are the right price of course).

Is anyone else dying to get back to thrift stores? I’m sure there would be some great teapots there!

I hope you enjoyed this DIY and as always, don’t forget to share with your friends!

Happy Friday!

I could not be happier that the week is coming to an end. I had so much going on this week and I was only able to get 2 posts out. But this one is a great way to end the week, at least for me.?

You know there are always things in our homes that we think of discarding without a second thought. Perhaps it’s leftover items from a previous project.  Maybe you have empty containers, or things that just get forgotten over time and we forget that they’re even there.

No, just me? ?

Well, my dear friend Casey over at Coffee with My Sunshine invited me to co-host her “Using Trash to Create Treasure” Challenge on her YouTube channel. Of course,  I was happy to oblige. She and I started YouTube about the same time and it has been so great to help each other along the way.

The premise is simple, take whatever might be considered “trash” around your home and make treasure out of it.

I went looking around my home and here are a few things I found (I did find more afterwards, but they aren’t pictured below).

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs Trash Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

Things found…

  • Cut poster boards from a project my husband did last month, that was leftover.
  • Leaves from when I did my Valentines topiary and wreath and only used the roses.
  • An old yankee candle that was completely used up and some cardboard crosses from packaging when I purchased some glass bowls from Dollar Tree.

I think I had a good base to start from.

I knew I wanted to create a farmhouse sign from the poster board. It looked like a chalk board so the first thing I did was get my Poplar boards that I always have on hand from Home Depot.

They come in 3 foot lengths and are only $1.05 a piece! Perfect for quick DIY’s.

I cut them so that they would fit slightly around the poster board.

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs 3 Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

I stained them with my favorite wood tint in Walnut. The reason I love this wood tint so much is that it is water-based and it doesn’t smell like stain so it’s perfect to work with in the winter months cause there are no harsh smells and you can use it indoors easily .

After I was done, I set that aside to dry and started working on the greenery. I took the leftover leaves from my Dollar Tree bushes and I took a round piece of heavy duty floral wire from the Dollar Tree that I already had.

I cut it to make one round piece and glued the ends to close it.

Then I glued leaves all around it to cover all of the purple.

I took more leaves and folded them in half in order to cut them into smaller leaves (to resemble like a boxwood leaf). Then I began gluing them all over the round piece.

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs 1 Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

If you have more than one color of leaf, the better it will look. I kept adding until I was happy with how it looked.

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs 2 Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

After my little wreath was done, I got the poster board and I added beautiful ticking stripe ribbon from Hobby Lobby that I had on hand, to one end of the poster board. I secured it by hot-gluing it to the back.

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs 7 Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

It was time to assemble the sign so I took the poplar boards and placed them faced down on the table.

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs 5 Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

I got some large craft sticks that I had, cut off the rounded ends and hot glued them on the sign in order to hold the pieces together (no power tools required since this sign is very light in weight).

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs 6 Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

Okay so next I added some more of that ribbon to the wreath.

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs 8 Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

I placed it on top of the first ribbon and hot-glued the top piece over the back of the poster board as well.

Then I added the frame (but didn’t glue it to the poster board yet).

It should look like this…

Then came the real fun!

I have had a Cameo for a while, just hadn’t had the time to use it, and today was the day!

I created the Spanish version of “Bless Our Home” and I was so excited to finally create my own personalized sign!

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs 11 Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

Which leads to a QUICK ANNOUNCEMENT!

Remember, when I said I will be opening my own online shop this year? Well, one of the items that I will be selling is decals for signs!

But that’s not the best of it, I haven’t seen anyone creating signs in Spanish or even Spanglish so I thought it would be perfect to be able to do that for my Spanglish community!  I will have English, Spanish and Spanglish decals in my shop and I am so exited.

There are a lot of things I have to take care of and learn behind the scenes, but I am hoping to release my first designs in the next few weeks, fingers crossed!

Okay, so back to the finished sign!

Here she is!

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs 15 Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

I noticed that when I hot glued the poster board to the back of the frame I accidentally did it a little high and the work “Bendice” is kinda close to the frame, but hey at least it’s just poster board and I can always fix it later.

I mean look at that mini wreath! ?

They were leftover leaves people!

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs 12 Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

I was so happy with how this turned out!

But wait, there’s more Trash to Treasure!!!

I created 3 more projects for the collaboration.

A ticking stripe etched glass candle Hurricane from the Yankee Candle Container (you can etch glass so easy with this).

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs 10 Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

I also created this Swiss Cross sign with the cardboard “crosses” and even more trash that I found when I was creating it.

This girl keeps ERRRRTHANG!

Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs 13 Trash to Treasure Farmhouse DIYs

And then finally a heart made out of corks, more of the black poster board and ribbon.

If you love these, you can watch the tutorial on how I made them below.
