This year is quickly flying by and Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it, so today I have something really special for you.

Ya know, the older I get the less knickknacks I want around the house cluttering my space especially for fleeting holidays. While I enjoy making home decor and unique pieces for my home, I want to make more meaningful pieces for my decor. And by meaningful sometimes I mean more challenging.

This year is going to be the year where I test my artistic abilities so I thought why not challenge myself in creating custom artwork for Valentine’s Day.

I love watching people paint and one of my favorite watercolor painters is Ellen Crimi Trent on YouTube. She’s amazing and I hope to one day paint as good as her. She created two beautiful watercolor pieces of art and I thought I would recreate one of them (using my stash of non-professional craft acrylic paint, LOL!)

So here goes..

Valentines Day Wall Art and Printable

I bought some canvases at the Dollar Tree (in their more expensive section). They have 3 packs for $5. I used the largest one of the pack for this.

I gave it one coat of white chalk paint. And when that dried I used a heart doily to trace a heart onto it.

Valentines Wall Art and Printable 1 Valentines Day Wall Art and Printable

Next, I taped off the inside of the heart so I wouldn’t get paint on that portion.

Valentines Wall Art and Printable 2 Valentines Day Wall Art and Printable

Then I just pulled out some of my craft paint and began adding flowers all around. I used light pink, peach and a fuchsia color.

Valentines Wall Art and Printable 3 Valentines Day Wall Art and Printable

I started with roses, made buds and honestly I just kept adding shapes all over the place. I really didn’t know how it was going to turn out.

Valentines Wall Art and Printable 4 Valentines Day Wall Art and Printable

I also added stems and random leaves throughout.

Valentines Wall Art and Printable 5 Valentines Day Wall Art and Printable

I added layers of color, waiting until the paint below dried to add more. Then I continued to fill in all the white space left around the heart.

Once I thought I did enough, I removed the tape.

Here’s how it turned out in the end! I didn’t think it was too bad considering it was my first attempt. And while I am happy I can enjoy this in my home, I figured I would share it with you all!

I adjusted the colors just a bit in order to make a more romantic and upscale look but the quality of the image turned out pretty great!

There is an 8 x 10 version as well as a printable for a Valentine’s Day card for you to use this Valentine’s Day.

Hey there friends! Hope you are all having a wonderful week. The weather is getting warmer and I am loving every bit of it. I really enjoy working outside on projects and I would much rather do it in the warmth.

Lately, I have been running a little low on thrifted items to make over so I decided to go thrifting last week. I was able to venture out to some new stores and I came across some great finds! You can come shop with me and check out my entire haul here.

For this post we are going to focus on the jug (or vase, whichever you prefer?). I knew I had to have it the minute I saw it. At $6.99 it was a little on the high end for me, but I loved the shape and knew exactly what I wanted to do.

Pottery Barn Artisna Vase Dupe 1 Pottery Barn Artisan Vase Dupe

I had come across these artisan vases online at Pottery Barn a few days prior and I was inspired to create something similar.

Look at those prices… yeah, that’s a no go from me. ?

Screen Shot 2021 03 02 at 10.30.33 PM Pottery Barn Artisan Vase DupeThe surface of the jug that I bought was not what I had in mind for my look and it had little recessed areas on the decorative florals that I needed to get rid of… so the first thing I did was get some joint compound.

Pottery Barn Artisna Vase Dupe 2 Pottery Barn Artisan Vase Dupe

It was what I had on hand, however spackle could work for this too.

I made sure the surface was clean first, then I removed the sticker and sprayed it down with mix of 50/50 alcohol and water. I wiped it well and let it dry.

With some gloves, I then applied joint compound all over the jug, using my hands to create long strokes from top to bottom.

Pottery Barn Artisna Vase Dupe 3 Pottery Barn Artisan Vase Dupe

I let it dry and then came back in to do it again, making sure the entire surface was covered. Once both coats were dry I came in with a 220 grit sandpaper and smoothed out the ridges that were naturally created as I covered the jug with compound.

Pottery Barn Artisna Vase Dupe 4 Pottery Barn Artisan Vase DupeAfter that was done I made sure to remove any excess sanding dust with a wet rag.

As you can see below, it wasn’t perfectly smooth but that’s how I wanted it since I did want it to look like an old handmade piece of pottery.

Pottery Barn Artisna Vase Dupe 5 Pottery Barn Artisan Vase Dupe

Next I took some chalk paint in the color milk jug (how appropriate) and gave the piece two coats.

Pottery Barn Artisna Vase Dupe 6 Pottery Barn Artisan Vase Dupe

Next was the fun part: distressing it to make it look like antique handmade artisan pottery! I mixed some of the milk jug paint with some of my favorite antiquing wax to darken the color a bit.

Pottery Barn Artisna Vase Dupe 7 Pottery Barn Artisan Vase Dupe

Then I began to use a flat brush and started to drag the side of the brush (with some paint) along the surface of the jug.

Pottery Barn Artisna Vase Dupe 8 Pottery Barn Artisan Vase Dupe

This process took a while for me since it was my first time trying… so I was winging it as I went.

The best thing about this though, is that you can do what you prefer for this process. You can add as much as you or as little paint for the “aging”. You can also choose to go with lighter or darker colors.

This is extremely versatile and super fun!

Pottery Barn Artisna Vase Dupe 9 Pottery Barn Artisan Vase Dupe

I came in with just the antiquing wax in some areas to make the aging more obvious. One thing I also made sure to do was paint the inside of the vase that was exposed. I didn’t want to have green pottery showing through.

In other areas of the jug I used a chip brush and I even incorporated vertical strokes.

Pottery Barn Artisna Vase Dupe 10 Pottery Barn Artisan Vase Dupe

Once I was done, here is how it turned out!

Pottery Barn Artisna Vase Dupe 11 Pottery Barn Artisan Vase DupeIt turned out so good! And now I want more since this one is looking pretty lonely. Plus doing it again will give me more practice and time to test other modes of application.

Pottery Barn Artisna Vase Dupe 12 Pottery Barn Artisan Vase Dupe

I just love how it looks with florals as well. I will say I wasn’t sure I could pull this off since I really wanted it to look authentic but I think I did pretty good.

Would you try something like this? Let me know below….

Faux Cement Tile DIY

*Some of the following links are affiliate links. Please see full disclosure for complete details*

Hello friends!

Hope you are having a wonderful day! As warmer weather approaches I like to add more touches of blue throughout my home. One thing I enjoy doing is looking at high end home decor stores to gather inspiration and I happen to come across some cement tile prints on Ballard Design’s website.

I love cement tile, but I never pay for the real deal which is why I painted my laundry room floors in my last house to mimic them. Ahhh, I miss those floors.

How to Paint Linoleum Floors 10 Faux Cement Tile DIY

Don’t worry, this project is not that huge….

I had some small wood squares from Plaid so I thought I would create some faux cement tiles for to display and add a pop of color around my home.

The first thing I did was paint the middle section with my favorite white chalk paint, White Adirondack.

Faux Cement Tile DIY 1 Faux Cement Tile DIY

Next, I used my Folkart Aged Glaze to stain the border frame.

Faux Cement Tile DIY 2 Faux Cement Tile DIY

Then I uploaded 3 different stencil patterns to my Cricut Design Studio and made some stencils using Cricut’s  stencil vinyl.

Faux Cement Tile DIY 3 Faux Cement Tile DIY
I used my weeding tool to remove the small pieces from the stencils and then used some inexpensive clear contact paper as transfer tape to adhere it onto the small frames. Faux Cement Tile DIY 4 Faux Cement Tile DIY

Once I got the placement right I used some Folkart Chalk Paint in the color Nautical to fill in the stencil.

Faux Cement Tile DIY 5 Faux Cement Tile DIY

I waited a little bit and then once the paint was a little dry I removed the stencil vinyl.

Faux Cement Tile DIY 8 Faux Cement Tile DIY

And that was it! These were so simple to make. And the best part is that you can choose the color and the design and it will cost so much less than the real thing!

You know I am always down for that!

Faux Cement Tile DIY 6 Faux Cement Tile DIY

I even love how they coordinate with my thrifted tray that I transformed and my Goodwill candleholders.  I feel Spring fast approaching already.

What do you think? Would you make some of these yourself? I love that they are not only super simple to make, but that they still have a high end look without the expense!

If you like these, then you will love the rest of the projects in my latest video as well! Check it out below!

I hope you enjoyed this simple DIY!

Hello everyone! Hope you all are doing well! I am so happy that Fall is finally here and the weather in Georgia has been amazing these past few days. Lows in the 5’s0 and highs in the low 70’s. Perfect weather!

Today I am sharing the latest dupe in my Look for Less Challenge. If you are not familiar with what it is, it is a challenge I host every month on my Youtube channel with a different co-host. It’s an open invite where other creators can join in and add their videos to my playlist so that we all can inspire to create high end items for our home without the cost.

You can check out the playlist for this month here.

My kitchen renovation  is pretty much wrapped up and what I am doing now is adding decor pieces to the space. I have a ton of updates coming at you in the next few days sharing everything it took to get it to where it is today. I feel like this kitchen has taken us most of this year.

Anyways, I needed a piece to go on the blank wall behind my new island and since I have been wanting a plate rack (those amazing ones you see in farmhouses like all the time ?) I thought it was finally the time to make one for myself.

I searched online and found this beauty on Etsy. It’s a made-to-order piece and if you are interested you can definitely check out the shop here. There are some gorgeous items in the shop!!!plate rack etsy DIY Farmhouse Rustic Plate RackThis piece, even though it was beautiful was out of my price range. At $349 it was more than I wanted to spend.

Don’t get me wrong, handmade items are worth the money. The time and effort it takes to make these things is serious and it should be compensated accordingly, but I am a handy person and I have a handy hubby and I knew we could knock this out for a fraction of the cost.

So off to our garage we went to check our scrap wood stash. We actually had to purchase one board at Home Depot because we didn’t have one long enough for the sides but everything else we had.

Using our inspiration piece as a reference, we took note and began to work.

With our table saw, we began to rip our boards to our desired size.

DIY Farmhouse Plater Rack 1 DIY Farmhouse Rustic Plate Rack

If you are interested in making one yourself here are the measurements.

We did make a couple of adjustments to the original size and we also removed the lowest shelf where the small pitchers were displayed. I have small kids and I did not see that as a practical way to display my pieces at all. Yikes! I could see the disasters now.

Here are our plans:

Plate Rack Measurements DIY Farmhouse Rustic Plate Rack
One more thing I did was round off the tops of the two sides to give it a soft more “cottagey” look. ? I traced a round edge and used my jigsaw for this.

DIY Farmhouse Plater Rack 2 DIY Farmhouse Rustic Plate Rack

Next, it was time to assemble the shelves. We started with the two inner shelves.

We used wood glue and nails for this and used our nail gun to attach them.

DIY Farmhouse Plater Rack 3 DIY Farmhouse Rustic Plate Rack

You will need to did this to both shelves. Then, we measured where we wanted them to go.

We measured 12 inches from the top of the bottom shelf to the bottom of the next shelf above. Then, we marked the area and nailed the shelves in from the outside.

DIY Farmhouse Plater Rack 5 DIY Farmhouse Rustic Plate Rack

The bottom shelf does not need a bottom support and the top is just the back support, no shelf.

After the shelves and supports were nailed in place, then came the dowels. We measured 2 inches above the shelf to get our desired location.

Here is where we messed up* –

We were following the inspiration piece and it had no groove lines in the shelves that we could make out so we assumed that the dowel was enough to hold the plates in place. HOWEVER, this is not the case and we didn’t find this out until AFTER we had finished the piece completely!

It is too late to make a groove now so we will add another dowel to the bottom center of the shelf to basically act a “stop” and function like the groove would have. I will share an update on the rack when that happens… but until then… let’s move on.

DIY Farmhouse Plater Rack 6 DIY Farmhouse Rustic Plate Rack

I didn’t want the stain to been to dark so I chose this one in the color Early American.

DIY Farmhouse Plater Rack 7 DIY Farmhouse Rustic Plate Rack

Next, I used Debi Design Diary’s clear wax to seal it. I used a wax brush to apply it. You are supposed to leave it overnight to cure and the next day you buff it with a lint-free cloth. Easy peasy!

Finally, we (and by we I mean, the Latino Engineer did it while I photographed?) installed the hardware to hang it up.

DIY Farmhouse Plater Rack 8 DIY Farmhouse Rustic Plate Rack

Besides the fact that I was freaking out that my plates would slip (I had put painters tape on the back of them for this shoot) and that I really didn’t have many blue and white dishes to display, I LOVE IT!

DIY Farmhouse Plater Rack 9 DIY Farmhouse Rustic Plate Rack

I seriously will be adding those dowels soon and will share how it looks when I do, but for now this is it!

DIY Farmhouse Plater Rack 10 DIY Farmhouse Rustic Plate Rack

I love the color and the little notches give it that rustic touch. Yet it still feels “cottagey” (there’s that word again? ).

Don’t those curved tops look better? I feel it softens the look.

I need more blue and white plates, gah!

And I am already working on some DIYs for either side of it to fill up even more space on that wall. All in all I am so happy!

DIY Farmhouse Plater Rack 11 DIY Farmhouse Rustic Plate Rack

So how did we do? I think we did alright! We spent only $12 versus the original price of $349!

Woot woot!!

And even with the minor adjustments I think it’s worth just as much.

So, let me know what you think! And don’t forget to pin and share with your friends!

I will see you in the next one. Until then, adios!

Farmhouse Barn Door DIY

Hello everyone! Hope you all are doing well. Today I have another Look for Less project for you all and I am so excited about how it turned out. As you know, I host this challenge every month on my channel. I ask other YouTubers to join in on the fun as well.

You are welcome to see the video tutorial on my Youtube channel or you can scroll to the end as well and watch the tutorial.

This time around I found this beautiful farmhouse barn door piece over at Kirkland’s:

I thought this piece was just lovely, but at $75, it was well out of my price range. So I decided to recreate it myself!

The best part about it is that I had some of the items I needed to recreate this.

I had picked up a frame from Goodwill for $1.50 and I had 2 poplar pieces of wood from Home Depot. They are really cheap and I always have some around for DIY’s. By the way, that frame was originally from Hobby Lobby and it retailed for $19.99!

White Farmhouse Barn Door DIY Farmhouse Barn Door DIY

I needed to make the “X” so I measured and marked the poplar pieces.

White Farmhouse Barn Door DIY 2 Farmhouse Barn Door DIY

To cut them I used my miter saw kit.

White Farmhouse Barn Door DIY 3 Farmhouse Barn Door DIY

I cut one long piece and two smaller ones.

Next, I painted them along with the frame with my favorite white chalk paint.

I gave them two coats and let them dry. Once dry, I measured and drew lines on the frame in order to create faux boards that ran from top to bottom.

White Farmhouse Barn Door DIY 5 Farmhouse Barn Door DIY

Afterwards, I placed the poplar boards down and glued them on using Dollar Tree’s wood glue. It actually works pretty well and I like that it’s not yellow.

White Farmhouse Barn Door DIY 6 Farmhouse Barn Door DIY

I used some paint containers to hold the boards in place while they dried.

White Farmhouse Barn Door DIY 7 Farmhouse Barn Door DIY

Then it was time for the hubby to help me out.

I had this jar in my craft stash and I picked up this hose clamp from Home Depot.

White Farmhouse Barn Door DIY 8 Farmhouse Barn Door DIY

I wanted to use the hose clamp to hold the jar on the barn door, so he cut the excess off and with his strong man hands he molded it to fit.

After screwing it on, it was ready to go! I thought about painting the clamp black like the original but then thought it actually looked better silver so I left it.

Then, I added some roses from Dollar Tree and greenery from Wal Mart and it was ready to hang.. only I can’t hang anything on the walls just yet!

The best part is this only cost $5 to make!

I think it would be perfect to change out throughout the seasons and I plan on adding fairy lights for some ambiance as well.

What do you think?

DIY Coastal Mirror

DIY Coastal Mirror

*Some of the links below are affiliate links. Please see full disclosure for more details*

Hey there friends! Hope you all are doing well. I have been away for a little bit. There’s been a lot to process over these past couple of weeks and while it feels like my kids just got out of school for the year, we are already getting ready for what the new school year will look like for our children.

We are also moving along with updates to the house. Things are moving slower than I wish, and several things have changed in our plans. We have painted the kitchen cabinets already which is a huge win at this point.

In addition, my husband and I have been wanting to create a second Youtube Channel called The Latinos Next Door so that we can share a more personal look into our lives and our day to day adventures, so we finally made that leap! Some of my original channel subscribers want a way to know us better and to see more videos so I am happy to provide that and see where that leads.

Today I am sharing my latest Look for Less project. I came across this beautiful mirror at Pier1 while checking out their “going out of business” inventory. Unfortunately, even on sale it was out of my price range. However, I really liked the look and I thought it would be something that would look great with my coastal farmhouse decor so I thought I would give it a shot.

Screen Shot 2020 05 24 at 12.14.36 PM DIY Coastal Mirror

I knew I could round up these items needed for this for much less.

The main items you need is a round wood board, half round beads and a mirror. The round wood board is from Home Depot. The half round wood beads are found online and the mirror is from Michael’s – it is a regular item but I found that not all Michael’s carry them.

10 DIY Coastal Mirror

As always, you can check out the video tutorial for this as well…

DIY Coastal Mirror

First thing I did was create a coastal greige stain for the wood board. Of course you can always choose how you wish to stain your piece to match your decor. You can go as light or dark as you choose.

9 DIY Coastal Mirror

To save on cost I used what I had on hand. Among them were my favorite white chalk paint for the dry-brushing, clear wax to create the stain and my favorite antiquing wax for depth.

In order to get the color above, I mixed the paints and waxes below. You can always substitute for close matches you may have on hand.

4 DIY Coastal Mirror

Then I just brushed it on all over the board while following the grain. I let it sit for a while to dry before buffing it with a lint free cloth. The wax I use tends to get a little grainy in places and I like to remove that excess, but not before it has a chance to dry some.

8 DIY Coastal Mirror

Before doing the same thing to the beads, I dry-fitted them around the mirror to know the exact number I was going to use.

7 DIY Coastal Mirror

I painted them as well.

RELATED: Pottery Barn Mirror Dupe

3 DIY Coastal Mirror

I let the beads and board dry, removed the excess wax and then gave them each a second coat. Once the second coat was dry, I removed the excess wax as well.

After that, I began to dry brush with white chalk paint. I used a chip brush for this and applied lighter in some areas than others, since I really wanted it to look aged.

Also, I made sure to get the edges as well.

12 DIY Coastal Mirror

I took a small artist brush and filled in the areas in between the beads. I wanted them to look like they were part of the board and it had aged that way for a while.

Horizontal Blog Images DIY Coastal Mirror

After I let that dry I cleaned the mirror and it was ready to go on my mantle. I will eventually add hanging hardware to the back, but for now this works fine.

I LOVE the way this mirror turned out!!!

6 DIY Coastal Mirror

The brush strokes aren’t the same throughout which I thinks adds to the character of the piece. Some are heavier than others. Some are more defined. For the areas that look a little more smoothed out, I took a lint free cloth and rubbed over the dry brushed areas to smooth them out.

5 DIY Coastal Mirror

I am so ready for my house to be done so I can decorate!

At least I was able to style the mantle for this. It may have to come off for a bit while we finish some things, but it’s nice to see how the space can look.

In the end, this mirror came to around $22 total. I didn’t use all of the beads and I used a coupon code for my mirror. Not bad I think!

Let me know how you like this Pier1 dupe!

Share with your friends who would love to have one of these as well.

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

Hello and Happy Friday!

It has been another full week here. This week was all about paperwork, tax paperwork that is! It’s one of those processes that can be painful leading up to it and then once you’re done, it’s like a huge weight has been lifted off and you can breathe again!

FYI… if you are still struggling or haven’t even started with your taxes, I have a $25 off code to use at H&R Block if you decide to have them handle it. We went there last year and it was so good to have someone do it for us.

Coupon Code: 51392

We plan on going there again and will be sharing more about our experience in a future post.

For this post, however, we are doing a little DIY to get us in the Spring mood.

During my last Look for Less Challenge, I gave everyone 3 projects to vote on for my monthly project. The most votes was for the tray I previously shared, but the wall planter was a close second so I decided to give it a go as well since so many people were intrigued by it.

Below is the inspiration piece.

Screen Shot 2020 01 31 at 1.42.40 PM 1 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

It wasn’t that expensive but I knew I could do better.

Here are a few of the things I used.

  • Early American Stain by Varathane
  • Mini Miter Kit
  • 2 x 4
  • Silhouette Cameo
  • Black Adhesive Vinyl
  • Clamps
  • Gray Wire Baskets
  • Wood Glue
  • Screws

We had some leftover 2 x 4’s at home and I got my hubby to trim off the edges to make them more square. I had him cut 2 of them at 36″ in length and the other 2 at 11 1/8″ so that they be slightly larger than the wire baskets.

I stained them with Early American and I added wood glue to the ends and help them with clamps until dry.

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 15 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

These baskets were from Hobby Lobby and you can get them as low as $3.50 with the 50% discount.

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 16 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

After the wood glue was dry, I drilled some countersink holes so that I could screw the wood together for a stronger hold.

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 1 DIY Farmhouse Wall PlanterThen I laid the baskets evenly throughout the frame leaving a little bit more space above the top basket.

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 2 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

Here is how I spaced them out.

MEASUREMENTS OVERVIEW:

  • Vertical 2 x 4’s = 36″
  • Horizontal 2 x 4’s = 11 1/8″
  • The first basket rests on the bottom shelf but is still attached by screws.
  • The next wire basket up is set at 13 1/2″ and the top wire basket is set at 23 1/2″

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 17 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

I marked them with tape to know where to screw them in.

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 18 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

My hubby took over at this point so I could take photos. He just took some screws we already had and screwed them through the top holes of the wire baskets, doing 2 on each side.
DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 3 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

You want to screw them in like this.

Don’t worry about the ugly yellow screws – we will address that later.

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 5 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

Of course, if anything confuses you by the process you can always watch the tutorial as well.

Next, I took my Cameo and made some “herb” decals. I actually made one in English and one in Spanish.

Stay tuned, cause these will be available in my shop!

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 11 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

I have had the Cameo for a while and only regret not using it sooner. It’s so much fun!

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 13 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

Eek! I just love making decals!

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 10 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

For the decals, I made a cute frame out of dowels which I cut with my cute mini miter saw kit.

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 12 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

Then I took this new product by PLAID called Treasure Gold in Antique Silver to paint the dowels. I wanted them to match the wire baskets since I already had stained wood on my frame.

I used this same paint to paint over those yellow screws we used to attach the baskets.

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 9 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

I glued the decal onto the frame and then I attached the small sign with command strips. I didn’t want to make it permanent in case I even want to use this sign for another purpose.

DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter 6 DIY Farmhouse Wall Planter

What’s cool is that the larger Dollar Tree terra-cotta pots fit on the wire baskets perfectly!

Psssst…. those aren’t real plants, but I plan on actually planting some for this piece.

I just couldn’t share pots with dirt (wouldn’t look as pretty ?).

Farmhouse Inspired Spring Decor DIY’s

Farmhouse Spring Decor DIYS Farmhouse Inspired Spring Decor DIYs

Hello dear friends!

Hope you all are having a wonderful week so far. Things were a little crazy over the weekend since we were painting and moving some furniture pieces around the house so we can continue removing the popcorn ceiling in the remaining areas.

Popcorn ceilings are the worst! Ugh!

The good news is that we have a good process now that makes it easy for anyone to tackle this themselves and I cannot wait to share the tips and tricks we have for that, so stay tuned!

In addition, I have my Look for Less Challenge invitation for February up and my co-host for this month is Kat with According to Kat. If you plan on participating make sure to check out the rules in this previous post. This month’s Look for Less projects are due on February the 19th.

Now for today! I thought I would bring you some inspiration in time for Spring with these Farmhouse Inspired Spring Decor DIY’s. I love seeing what other creative bloggers come up with and some of these ideas are just darling!

So here we go…

This first DIY is from Kati over at Houseful of Handmade. Aren’t these precious!? And guess what, they aren’t real metal. They are faux metal wall planters and she shares exactly how to make them on her blog. Check out how easy these are to make.

The second Spring Decor Inspiration piece is from Melissa over at Create and Find. I LOVE this idea! These stripes are perfect and that sweet burlap is the perfect touch. You won’t believe how easy this was to make and how much it looks liker her inspiration piece.

The third inspiration piece is from my dear friend Michelle over at Our Crafty Mom. If you don’t like to spend too much time on an arrangement, this is the piece for you. It took her less than 15 minutes to make and it’s full of farmhouse touch. Sometimes the prettiest things can be so simple.

Now, if you wish to give your hands a little more action and want to take on something a little harder, then try your hand at these DIY plant hangers. Lisa from Farmhouse on Boone is both a blogger/youtuber and she’s been one of my all time favorites! She makes these look so easy too!

And it’s so easy to learn since she offers a blog post and video as well.

Looking for a simple table setting that looks elegant yet farmhouse chic? Then you will love this beautiful table setting from Roxanne over at The Honeycomb Home. Ferns, terra-cotta pots and a neutral palette. It’s so calm yet so Spring! I need to try this in my home.

Spring Tablescape The Honeycomb Home Farmhouse Inspired Spring Decor DIYs

Of course, there is no Spring decor without a wreath and I have two versions to share!

The first is a simple Eucalyptus wreath made from real greenery from the grocery store no less. It really doesn’t take much to add some greenery to your space! This too came from Roxanne over at The Honeycomb Home.

DIY Simple Spring Wreath Farmhouse Inspired Spring Decor DIYs

The second wreath is from Carmen over at Living Letter Home. The colors in the wreath are perfect! Not too soft and not too strong and I love the large scale of this and the addition of the “hello”. Plus, she coordinates this wreath with more Spring decor and everything comes together beautifully.

The following piece is one from yours truly. I made these sweet floral mason jar sconces with fairy lights and they were easier than you would think. I love how the softness of the flowers meet the rustic hook and wood board to create a perfect sconce for any farmhouse wall. Definitely one of my favorite DIY’s.

The next Spring decor inspiration is from Marianne at the Songbird Blog. These terra-cotta planters with a little bit of pastel colors, paired with the perfect flowers in pink and blue are darling! Another simple DIY with such a powerful impact that showcases exactly what Spring is about.

Spring flowers in Fusion painted pots 8 Farmhouse Inspired Spring Decor DIYs

Of course, if terra-cotta pots aren’t your thing, then try something a little more unexpected.

Maria from Simple Decor Nature Blog uses rusty old diary containers and I couldn’t be more in love with these. It’s the perfect combination of old along with youthful blooming flowers. She shares several versions as well on her post!

Lastly, here is another DIY piece from me. If you aren’t into flowers (and that’s totally okay) but would still like ideas for “out of the box” thinking then perhaps you might want to try using something like split peas as a vase filler.

The peas bring the right touch of green, but very subtly. Those rustic hurricanes were a Dollar Tree DIY and you can find out how to create that rustic finish right here.

I hope you enjoyed this sweet little round up! I cannot wait for Spring weather now, can you?

Happy Friday!

We have made it to the end of the work week and I am happy that I’m still alive with this being the end of week 2 of my fitness and health routine. Whew!

I wanted to end the week on another sweet Valentine’s note since you all seemed to enjoy the wreath and topiary that I have already created. The only difference is this time I am going completely farmhouse neutral.

The items I used were from Dollar Tree and a couple of items I had left over from other projects. Plus, it is super easy to recreate!

Can I get a heck yeah!

Dollar Tree Valentine’s Sign How To:

First you will need a Dollar Tree frame (I used the square one below) and some scrapbook paper. I got this paper from Hobby Lobby and it has a ship lap print. It was left over from my DIY farmhouse picture frames.

Dollar Tree Valentines Sign 1 Dollar Tree Valentines Sign

First, I removed the back of the sign and cut the scrapbook paper to fit.

Dollar Tree Valentines Sign 2 Dollar Tree Valentines Sign

I used a glue stick to adhere it to the back of the sign (where it had no print).

Then I used one of the same hearts from my Valentine’s garland and this time I stained it with with a little bit of antiquing wax. I watered it down a bit and just brushed the “stain” on and removed any excess with a paper towel.

Dollar Tree Valentines Sign 3 Dollar Tree Valentines Sign

Once that was dry I added a metal heart from another Dollar Tree sign and I glued it on with some E6000.

Dollar Tree Valentines Sign 4 Dollar Tree Valentines Sign

After that was in place, I threaded a burlap ribbon through the top hole of the heart.

Dollar Tree Valentines Sign 5 Dollar Tree Valentines Sign

Then it was time to assemble.

I placed the frame face down and then laid the heart down on top with the ribbon hanging over the frame. I adjusted the ribbon to where I wanted it to go and then put the back on. I held the ribbon on the back of the frame with a little bit of tape.

Dollar Tree Valentines Sign 6 Dollar Tree Valentines Sign

And that was it!

Dollar Tree Valentines Sign 7 Dollar Tree Valentines Sign

This is perfect for anyone not wanting to go all out with pinks and reds for Valentine’s Day. I love the look of the heart. It almost looks like a necklace hanging.

Sweet and simple, yet elegant and farmhouse of course… ?

And of course it coordinates perfectly with last year’s Valentine’s LOVE sign as well.

Dollar Tree Valentines Sign 9 Dollar Tree Valentines Sign

If you don’t like things completely neutral you can always add your personal touch by changing or adding some color. ?

And if you are feeling truly inspired to create this weekend, check out my 2 coastal farmhouse DIY’s perfect for Valentine’s as well.

Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

*Some of the links below are affiliate links, see full disclosure for more details.*

Happy Wednesday!

Now, is it just me or is January moving so quickly? I mean, my birthday is next week and I don’t even know how we got here. I feel like I was just taking down Christmas decor and all of a sudden I am getting another… year…. older…

Ya’ll I am not ready. 40 is creeping up and I am freaking out! Can these next 3 years just go really slow… I mean like really slow.

Snail pace people!

Okay, enough with the age talk…

>>>>Before I go on with the tutorial I did just share my latest thrift store haul on my channel so if you love thrifted treasures and wish to check out what I scored head on over to the video here<<<

Now back to the DIY… I hope you enjoyed the last Valentine’s DIY. I really love how that wreath turned out.

Today’s DIY is just as dreamy. This topiary is the perfect compliment to the wreath and I use the same colors for the roses so they coordinate if you want to maintain a consistent theme.

Here’s what you need:

Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary Supplies

  • Metal Bucket
  • Rose Bushes
  • Dowel
  • Floral Foam
  • Jute
  • Nautical Rope (I used both white and brown)
  • Hot Glue
  • Toy Ball
  • Floral Moss
  • Wood Tint (or stain)
  • Chalk Paint (or paint of your choice)

I used a bucket from Christmas that I had left over and the white nautical rope is from Hobby Lobby. It’s $1.99 but I bought it at half off and they carry it all the time.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 1 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

First thing I did was hot glue the rope onto the bucket. I started with the brown rope and worked from the bottom up.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 2 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

Make sure to keep the rope straight and when you wrap around back to itself, keep the “step up” to the next row tight and clean so that it looks nice.

Once you get to 2/3 of the way, cut the rope and start with the white. Now, this white nautical rope unravels really easy so make sure to take a little hot glue and seal the end so that it doesn’t come undone.

Then proceed to wrap.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 4 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

When I got to the handles I stopped and I used jute string to wrap the handles. Make sure to start really low on the handles so the white rope can cover the ends.

RELATED: Dollar Tree Valentines Day Decor

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 3 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

With the jute, I took my time and added a little bit of hot glue at a time. Don’t overlap the jute either. Just keep wrapping it next to each other keeping it nice and clean.

After I did both handles, I continued with the white rope.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 5 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

Once I reached the top, I cut off the end and frayed it and glued it to the inside of the bucket. This creates less bulk and allows it to adhere to the wall of the bucket better.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 6 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

Next, just to be safe, I painted the top portion of the inner bucket with white chalk paint. I knew I was going to fill the bucket in but just in case there was a peek through, you wouldn’t see any red.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 7 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

After the bucket was finished I took a broken dowel left over from another project and applied my favorite wood tint and let it sit to dry.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 8 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

Next, I had these toy balls from Dollar Tree and I took one of them.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 9 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

I drilled a hole the size of the dowel through it.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 10 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

Next, I took the same rose bushes that I used on my wreath and I pulled them off the stems as well.

ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 10 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

*Remember that when you remove the backing that keeps the roses together after you remove them from the stems, you have to glue the center of the petals together or they won’t stay together.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 11 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

Then I simply hot glue the roses onto the ball.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 12 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

I started at the top with the white and worked my way down with the darker colors creating an ombré effect.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 13 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

Once I was done adding roses, I inserted the dowel.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 14 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

I then took some floral foam and added it to the bucket.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 15 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

I inserted the dowel…

And then I hot glued some floral moss to the bottom.

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 16 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

Finally, all I did was add a bow to the dowel and a little wooden heart (also from Dollar Tree) to the bottom of the stem, and I was done!

Dollar Tree Valentines Topiary 17 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Topiary

I love that this topiary can easily transition into Spring decor simply by removing the heart.

And can we talk about the bucket turned coastal farmhouse basket? I LOVE how it turned out and now I want to do it to all the things!

I hope you enjoyed this cute Valentines DIY Topiary.

Happy Monday!

Hope you all had a wonderful and restful weekend. My parents came over to spend the weekend and it was nice. My mom helped me out with the kids while I did some laundry and my dad helped the hubby work on fixing drywall, adding spackle and sanding areas in the kids’ bedrooms. It was productive, but we still have so much left to do.

I thought I would kick off the week with a sweet Valentine’s DIY fromhere(yes, it’s all from Dollar Tree).

This year I am going with softer more romantic hues, since last year I did more reds with buffalo check details.

Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath Supplies”

  • Heart Tinsel Wreath
  • Chalk Paint ( I used this one)
  • Rose Bushes (3 different colors for ombré effect)
  • Burlap Ribbon
  • Glue Gun
  • Twine

First you will need this heart sign.

Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 1 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

Remove the “love” and the tinsel.

ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 2 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

Next you will need to paint the inner grid. I chose white chalk paint however, you can choose whichever color suits your color scheme.

ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 3 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

Give it 2 full coats (you will not need to paint the exterior borders).

Next you will take the burlap wired ribbon from Dollar Tree, cut it to fit the heart shape horizontally and vertically because you are about to weave it through the grid like a basket. ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 4 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

I started with all of the horizontal rows.

RELATED: Dollar Tree Valentines Day Wreath (made from Christmas berry bushes)

Then I added the verticals.

ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 6 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

Here is what it should look like.

ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 7 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

Once you are done with the “basket weave” you will glue the ends of the ribbon to the border of the heart frame with hot glue.

RELATED: 4 Valentines Day DIY’s

ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 8 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

Then when they are all glued down you will need to cut off the excess ribbon all around the border.

ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 9 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

After that I chose to use 3 different types of roses from Dollar Tree that all coordinated well.

ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 10 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

I remove the rose heads from their stems first.

ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 11 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

And then glued them on the perimeter of the wreath.

In order for the roses not to come apart after you cut down the small piece of them stem holding them together you will have to add hot glue throughout the inside centers of the petals so that they stick together.

ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 12 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

I began at the bottom and worked my way up. I used the dark roses first, then lighter peach ones and then the white ones.

ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 13 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

Once they were all adhered, I added a little piece of jute to hang it from the back.

ollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 14 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

And this wreath was done!

Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath 14 Dollar Tree Valentines DIY Wreath

I love the basket weave detail with the beautiful transition between the roses creating a beautiful ombré effect.

You hang it on a door, over a fireplace, above a bed…. and you can change it up depending on your preferred color scheme.

How do you like it? Would you give it a try?

Know someone who might like this?  Don’t forget to share this with your friends and PIN this for later!

*Some of the links below may be affiliate links. Please red full disclosure here*

Happy Monday everyone!

I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was super busy trying to get everything I needed to get done before the kids went back to school from winter vacation today. I love my kiddos, but boy it’s nice to be back to our regular routine again.

It has been rainy and cold here and since all of the Christmas decor is put away and things are looking a little bare, I thought I would create some winter decor in order to liven things up at home…. and I decided to use leftover wrapping paper.

Is it me or do you always have a ton left over?

Well, I figuredI should put it to good use, especially since some of it is actually really pretty.

I don’t have all of my crafting supplies unpacked yet so I really tried to get as creative as I could with the random items I could find throughout the home and here is what I came up with…

First, I took this glass vase from Dollar Tree, it’s same kind I used for this winter DIY a few years back.

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 9 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

I wiped it down with alcohol to make sure it was super clean and then I measured the outside.

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 11 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

I cut some wrapping to fit around it – you can make this as wide or narrow as you like.

I used  a paper cutter to create clean lines (they are so inexpensive and totally worth it if you need straight cuts). Here is a similar one.

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 4 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

And then I added Mod Podge all over the vase. I normally use matte mod podge, but since he paper was glossy I wanted to keep the sheen consistent.

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 10 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

I wrapped the paper around the vase and then applied more Mod Podge on top of the paper to seal it. Once dry I added some navy ribbon to finish off the design. I used a thin line of E6000 to properly secure it on top and on bottom.

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 12 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

And here is how it turned out!

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 13 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

I am currently using it as a candleholder – I used one of those battery operated Dollar Tree ones, but it would also look stunning as a vase with pretty winter greenery inside.

Of course I didn’t stop there…. there’s more DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

Next, I took this really sad frame that I bought at Hobby Lobby for 80% off. I started to do something to it but never finished.

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 1 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

I took some Java Home Decor chalk paint and I painted the frame.

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 2 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

Then I painted over the inside with White Adirondack.

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 3 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

Then I printed this free winter printable I found here and I cut it down to size (the print is much larger but I wanted it to be smaller inside the frame for this project.

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 7 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

I glued it to poster board to give it more stability and weight.

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 8 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

Next I cut out some more wrapping paper to fit inside the frame. I added poster board to the back of it as well.

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 4 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

I glued it to the frame with regular school glue.

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 5 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

Once dry I took these dots from Dollar Tree’s new craft section and add them back to the floral print in order to attached it to the wrapping paper frame.

And that’s it for this one!

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor 16 DIY Rustic Farmhouse Winter Decor

I love the contrast between the “flannel” paper and the pretty printable.

I did also make 2 other winter DIY’s as well.

This snowflake wood sign is one of them…

As well as this cute tag to hang on a wreath…

I love how they are all different yet coordinate so well together.

You can check out how to make the 2 snowflake DIY’s on my video since I didn’t want this post to be too long with so many images. The wood sign was made from scratch with a snowflake from Dollar Tree.

And the cute tag is also a Dollar Tree piece as well.

And finally here is how I styled them on my “new to me” bookcase (that I just bought on FB Marketplace for $30 btw… Woot woot!).

Farmhouse Spring and St. Patrick’s DIY’s

Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs

*Some of the links below are affiliate links, please go here  for full disclosure. I am a Plaid Ambassador and some of the products used here were supplied to me*

Hey there! I know it has been a while since I’ve posted, but I am sure you’ll appreciate the DIY’s I’m sharing with you all today. I’ve been so busy at home getting rid of unwanted and unnecessary things that I’m making sure I only make what I really want and is truly necessary as far as my decorating is concerned. Since reading the book and seeing her show, I’ve taken the Marie Kondo thing seriously and I don’t plan on going back now.

So while taking that into consideration I am trying to make DIY’s that can be used for multiple occasions or seasons and used in different places throughout the home.

While St. Patrick’s Day is not a Latin American holiday it’s actually very special to me and my husband since my he asked me to be his girlfriend on St. Patrick’s Day (apparently he had some liquid courage that day)…. so it’s kinda nice to celebrate that occasion.

I knew I wanted to add a few touches of green here and there, but I’m not fond of all that green glitter and decor you see out in the stores. So I began looking for alternative solutions and I came across some dried split peas at my local grocery store and had an awesome idea.

I had these candle holders from Dollar Tree that I had left over from last year… ( you can totally use any candle holders you have on hand or even thrifted ones).

Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs 1 Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs

And I decided to give them a coat of my favorite Martha Stewart brown paint in Tilled Soil (I have used it here and here as well).

Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs 2 Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs

After 2 coats I then took some Folkart acrylic paint in the color Country Twilland used a chip brush to dry brush on some streaks.

Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs 3 Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs

They’ll look like this when they are done.

Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs 4 Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs

Then afterwards, I used one of my new FAVORITE products… It’s called Antique Wax by Folkart .

Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs 5 Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs

All you do is take a lint free cloth and rub it on these candle holders.

Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs 6 Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs

And it will deepen the color and make these candle holders look like wood!

Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs 7 Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs

They look just fine the way they are and you can totally leave them this way, however, I wanted to add glass hurricanes to the top.

So I took one of the extra tall vases from Dollar Tree, one of the regular size vases and finally one of my leftover Yankee Candle jars (cause DT does not carry any in these size)… I cleaned them and adhered them to the top of the candleholders with E6000 and a little bit of hot glue…

Of course, I did not get a picture of this ??‍♀️ but I am sure you can figure it out ?.

Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs 8 Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYsOnce they were adhered I added those split peas I talked about earlier along with some Dollar Tree white candles and they make the sweetest Spring/St. Patrick’s Day themed center piece for my breakfast area.

And you would never guess most of the items used were from Dollar Tree!

Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs 9 Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs

These are going to be so versatile. I can add orange lentils for Fall, sand if I want a more coastal theme or moss for Summer. The options are endless and I think they look so good together…

Of course my love for this farmhouse version of “green glitter” (as my dear friend Marie from The Inspiration Vault calls it) did not stop there and I made 2 of the following wreaths…

Yeah, I went a little nuts! ?

Farmhouse Spring St. Patricks DIYs 12 Farmhouse Spring and St. Patricks DIYs

If you are interested in how I made it you can check out tutorial for the wreath  in my video below…

Hope you all have a wonderful week and I will see you soon! Don’t forget to pin this and share with your friends!

DIY Dollar Tree Fall Succulent Pumpkin Planter

DIY Dollar Tree Fall Succulent Pumpkin Planter Pin DIY Dollar Tree Fall Succulent Pumpkin Planter

*Some of the following links are affiliate links, go here for full disclosure*

Happy weekend everyone! I have another fall DIY for you all and I am really excited about this one. I made these DIY Dollar Tree Fall Succulent Pumpkin Planters and I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out.

Okay, so what better way to add some greenery to Fall than to add it to some Dollar Tree pumpkins… super inexpensive and easy to make… 2 things I love the most!

The main items you will need are:

  • Dollar Tree Carvable Pumpkins (they are out in stores right now, but you can always order them online and get them shipped to your local store for FREE)
  • Dollar Tree Succulents
  • A carving tool (but you can also use the little carving kits at Dollar Tree)
  • Paint of your choice – I used Rustoleum’s Chalked Paint in Linen White and Aged Gray (I use those a lot… like in my Pottery Barn mirror dupe and my Dollar Tree Pumpkin Topiaries
  • Floral Foam
  • Floral Moss
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue

So the first thing you want to do is get a carvable pumpkin from Dollar Tree.

Oh and as always you can view the video tutorial here, if videos are your jam! ?

I happened to have an unfinished one from last year that I had already started painting so I decided to use that one. I went ahead and carved out the top.

Then I painted it with my favorite white chalk paint  and added floral foam to the inside. I made sure to secure it with hot glue.

I then added the floral moss, adhering it with hot glue as well.

Finally you just add your Dollar Tree succulents and arrange them whichever way you like! I used several I had from Dollar Tree and a few other from Michael’s that I was able to purchase during their 80% off end of summer floral sale. I even got some for only 80 cents!

Also, if you don’t have these carvable pumpkins you can also use regular foam ones and not even carve them.

Just paint them or leave them as is.

Glue the floral moss on the top and make a hole for your succulent picks (if the hole of the stem you removed is not large enough).

Then add your succulent picks!

I love how you can make them in all shapes, colors and sizes!

Eek! Now I want to fill my house with these! Which one is your fave? Would you leave the colors as is or would you paint yours as well?

DIY Buffalo Check Mini Stand for Fall

IY Buffalo Check Mini Stand Pin DIY Buffalo Check Mini Stand for Fall

Hello friends! Can you believe it is September already!??!? Holy moly! Before you know it we will be trick-or-treating and then saying “Thanks” and then opening presents….. Okay, I need to pace myself.  Ha!

But you get the drift, time is flying!

And with that we need to start changing things up at home… and by that I mean we need to start our Fall decorating.

And what better way to display your Fall decor than on a cute buffalo check mini stand….

You know I love buffalo check, right? I mean I re-did my littlest’s bedroom and I painted one entire wall in buffalo check! If you haven’t seen that transformation you definitely must, cause you will be in buffalo check heaven, just sayin’!

Okay, this tutorial is much smaller in scale so I thought I would walk you through it again in case you have been dying to learn how to paint buffalo check…

Here goes!

DIY Buffalo Check Mini Stand for Fall

So, for this mini stand I got an unfinished candlestick from Michael’s and an unfinished wood round from Hobby Lobby. DIY Buffalo Check Mini Stand DIY Buffalo Check Mini Stand for Fall

I glued them together with wood glue. I made sure to hold the candlestick in place with painters tape to ensure it would stay put and in the center.

Once it was dry I painted the top with Rustoleum Chalked paint in White Linen (the same one I used for my Pottery Barn Mirror Dupe) and the base with Chalked paint in Aged Gray.

Once I did that I used painters tape to tape out the stripes.

For my daughter’s room I started from the middle and worked my way out with the stripes, but since this was so small and simple, I just placed a piece of tape at the end and with my fabric tape measure I measured the width of the tape and spaced out the rest of the stripes so they were all the same size.

Once all of the tape was on I painted the stripes with the Aged Gray.

I gave it 2 coats and removed the tape.

Once the paint was dry, I added painters tape in a perpendicular direction to the stripes already in place.

***Also, if at any point this seems a little confusing, you can always check out my video tutorial below…***

Once they were secure, I painted those stripes with the same gray paint.

This time you keep that tape in place. DO NOT remove it!

You will now place painters tape to the original vertical lines from before, but ON TOP of the existing tape. This will isolate the intersections (or squares) of both of the lines.

Then you will paint it a darker gray (or color of choice).

Once you are done, simply remove the tape one layer at a time and touch up any areas necessary. I like to use a small square artist brush.

You now have a cute & neutral, DIY buffalo check mini stand for Fall! You can put pumpkins on it or any other Fall decor piece. If you don’t prefer gray, that’s okay, you can totally customize it to suit your decor color scheme.

DIY Pottery Barn Vases

Pottery Barn Vases Pin DIY Pottery Barn Vases*Some of the links below may be affiliate links, for full disclosure please go here*

Happy Hump day! I am so happy half the week is gone because I have been painting like crazy all week and I am determined to finish before the weekend approaches… I need a vacation!

So, if you recall I started my monthly Look for Less Challenge in July where I created a dupe for a Pottery Barn mirror. And it was finally time to do the challenge for this month, but unfortunately because of the water leak that I mentioned in my last post, I was not able to do what I had originally intended… so I opted for another Pottery Barn dupe!

And while it was not planned, I totally love how they turned out.

So it all began when I saw these beauties online…

Beautiful right?

Well the vases were, but the price not so much… the smallest was $49 and the tallest was $79!!!!! What in the world!?

Yeah no, that was NOT going to happen…

So I remembered I had these not so lovely vases that I have been hoarding saving for about 10 years now, and I thought it was the right time to give them a facelift. I also went ahead and decided to makeover my large vase in my last thrift store hall as well…

Ick, I know! These were so outdated, but they had a great shape… reason why I just could never let them go.

Also, remember you can always view the tutorial below as well…

So, I took them and gave them several coats of white spray paint.

I added painter’s tape and painted the bottom portion with Martha Stewart’s Vintage Decor Paint in Tilled Soil.

I gave it at least 2 coats. I even took a fan artist brush and add little strokes throughout to resemble clay poking through the paint.

Then afterwards, I used Americana Acrylic Paint (from Hobby Lobby) by DecoArt in the color Prussian Blue along with 2 stencils I also purchased there with my 40% coupons., to add a pattern throughout.

DIY Pottery Barn Vases 7 DIY Pottery Barn Vases

I did a round stencil for the round vase and as you can see they didn’t turn out perfect because of the shape of the vase. I tried spray adhesive, but the stencil still wouldn’t stick very well.

I didn’t mind the messy look though, since I was trying to make these look kinda antique and old.

I used the other stencil pattern on both the other vases since they were a set. I purchased these.

I basically eye-balled the pattern… and worked my way around the vase.

DIY Pottery Barn Vases 3 DIY Pottery Barn Vases

The square vases were perfect as is, but the round vase looked little empty so I took a light blue acrylic paint and used craft match sticks to add more freehand dots on and around the original stencil and I love the final look!

Since I already had the paint and the 2 square vases, I only needed the stencils. The round vase only cost me $5.95 so I was all in for 3 vases at $11!

These are great for bookshelves:

I think I did pretty good! Do you have any vases that need a makeover at home?
