It’s been a while, but I am finally back with some fun ideas and amazing dupes! This one that I did recently is one of my new faves. I was inspired by the Pottery Barn Sienna Cement Outdoor Vases and I had to try making something similar myself. This dupe is perfect all year long as well as during the holidays when you can dress it up with gorgeous, yet inexpensive pine picks to give you that ultimate Pottery Barn Christmas aesthetic.
In addition, there are several more DIYs at the very end of this video for you to enjoy, so don’t forget to check those out as well.
First thing you will need is an old or thrifted large vase. I got this one for $3.99 from a recent thrift haul in Nashville.
Next, you want to spray paint it with primer. In my case, I painted it with a flat paint and primer in one.
Once that is dry, you want something like suede cord or jute cord.
Measure the cord around the vase in the location you wish to add it. Make sure to cut it to length and then glue it on with something durable like E6000. You can add as many or few lines as you want. This will give the vase ridges that will give it more dimension.
Next, you can paint it any color you wish. I chose a light taupe color. I tried to go a different route, but I didn’t like it so I started over. I used a mixture of DIY clay based paint and baking soda to give it texture.
Once the vase is dry, I went over it with clear wax to seal it.

Finally, it’s time to give it even more dimension and age it. I took white wax and with a small artist brush began to highlight the crevices made by the cord in order to bring those out more. I added white decrepit dust, which is a highly pigmented powder to give it more dimension in some areas than others. And I brushed more white wax throughout.
Once everything was cured, this is how it turned out. The detail from the baking soda texture along with the white wax and dust truly makes this look so aged and you would never guess it was a DIY that started out with a thrifted glass vase.
I added these gorgeous pine picks and the entire arrangement turned out so elegant and perfect for the holidays.
What do you think about this transformation? Would you try this technique out? I am so happy with it and I cannot wait to give other old vases this treatment as well.

Until then, adios!
