Christmas Look for Less DIYS
Christmas Look for Less DIYS
Most people would think it is way to early in the year to even begin to think about Christmas, however, if the summer has any indication on how fast the rest of the year will go, Christmas will be here before we know it. This summer flew by and the kids will already be heading back to school in less than a week.
I really feel like they are making summer vacations shorter every year, but that is a topic for another day.
For years now, I have been teaming up with other amazing YouTubers to share some Christmas in July inspiration every summer. Not only is it fun, but it helps viewers get an idea of what they can do for the upcoming Christmas season to get them better prepared ahead of time.
Today I am sharing some of the best Look for Less DIYs that I have recreated for the Christmas season. Most of these are pretty traditional when it comes to color scheme, however, any of these can be adapted to your particular taste.
The tutorials of some of these DIYs can be accessed via links provided, but all are shown in the full video at the end of this post or directly via this link.

Christmas Look for Less DIYS
1. Pine Cone Wreath –
Serena & Lily has amazing decor all year round, but very minimal items when it comes to seasonal decor. So when I saw they had a pine cone wreath on their site, for a ridiculous price I might add, I had to try my hand at making my own. My version is below and you won’t believe how much it ending up costing me versus the original.
Here’s how to make it yourself 👉🏼 TUTORIAL
2. Berry Trees –
Pottery Barn always has beautiful decor, but I can never afford it really, so I choose to make recreations of their items whenever I can. These berry trees were so easy to make and with just a few items from the Dollar Tree, I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out.
The cost savings was over $124!
3. Venetian Tree Topper –
This is probably the most surprising look for less I dupe for Christmas that I have made, mostly because I just don’t care for tree toppers cause I can never find any that I actually like. However, I saw the Venetian tree topper on Ballard Designs and I couldn’t wait to make my own. With just a couple of items from Dollar Tree I managed to recreate the topper in just minutes!

4. Candy Striped Ribbon Votives –
This one is another one from Pottery Barn and if I am being honest, I would probably use a different kind of paint (like spray paint) next time I try these. However, I think I did pretty good by using what I had and the resemblance to the originals is pretty close. Either way, I save over $65 on these so it was still a win!
5. Faux Berry Kissing Ball –
Would you believe me if the original designer version of this kissing ball was listed at $69!? Well it was and let me tell you it’s not worth it. I am always up for a tedious detail oriented DIY and this was no exception. I love how this turned out and I hope to make more so I can hang these on my wall sconces for Christmas. I think they would look absolutely adorable and even more festive for the Christmas season.
6. Wood Stained Nutcrackers –
I have never been a fan of nutcrackers, I always thought they were just a little too “loud” and creepy looking. However, I came across a pair of wooden stained ones on the Pottery Barn website and they actually looked good. Maybe because they didn’t have faces or weren’t adorned with a thousand jewels and colors, either way, these were more my style.
I found some unfinished ones in the Dollar Tree plus section and I got to workin staining them. I saved myself over $100 for the set and I even found larger ones to make this year again.
Easy instructions on how to recreate these found HERE.
7. Striped Yarn Ornaments –
These ornaments were originally knitted I think, but I can’t knit so did the next best thing. I just wrapped the yarn around the ornament, but the overall finished look was very much the same. They looked similar to the originals and they didn’t require any special skills for anyone to try so I was happy with making them this way. Plus the stripes are just too cute and cozy, perfect for Christmas.
8. Berry Wreath –
I am a sucker for wreath dupes. I never buy a new wreath because I know I can always make a cheaper version look just as good. And have you seen the prices of finished wreaths lately? Yeah, no thanks. And truthfully, now I have to be even more frugal with my wreath making because I have a double front door and one wreath will no longer suffice. I have to make two of each for my front door every time.
This one from Pottery Barn was so pretty and I saved over $125 on the one I made and I couldn’t be more proud!
9. White and Gold ornaments –
The best thing about ornaments is that you can really do a lot with the cheap plastic ones you find at your local Dollar store. With just a little bit of white paint and Rub & Buff, I recreated a pair of ornaments from Ballard Designs and they were a fraction of the cost. There really is no need to invest so much into ornaments. These are just as pretty as the real deal, plus they won’t break.
10. Velvet Trees –
The same thing goes for tabletop decor. You can recreate velvet trees with just a few craft items. These were originally glass, but I used metallic plastic ones from the Dollar store and they still had the same look as the originals. These won’t shatter if they fall either so that’s another win for me.
I saved over $80 on these and still get to enjoy some really pretty tabletop trees.
You can watch the step by step instructions to recreate all of these Christmas Look for Less DIYS in the video below. I share the side by side images of the originals and my dupes so you can get a good comparison and I break down the savings for each one.
I hope you enjoyed these fun Christmas Look for Less DIYs and hopefully it gave you some inspiration for your Christmas season this year. Things keep getting more expensive each year, but we can still have a beautifully decorated home for the holidays with a little bit of time and effort.
