1 Year Timelapse Building a Home
1 Year Timelapse Building a Home
Whenever you take on something for the first time it tends to usually take much longer than you anticipate, at least that has always been the experience for us. This house build was no exception.
Here we are after one year of breaking ground and we are still not “in” the house. Trim is not finished, interior paint isn’t complete, water is not on, and the outlets are still not installed…yet we are much closer than where we started.
Now, there are many factors that have played into this that are beyond our control, like the weather. The weather can get pretty harsh up here and it seems like the rain loves to come through the minute we start on a new task. Sometimes we had to wait on contractors to make time for us in their schedule. And other times, Nelson and I would take our time researching and vetting subcontractors before making a final decision regarding who and what we would be going with.
Building your house ON YOUR OWN its not for the faint of heart. There are moments of doubt, despair, frustration, indecisiveness and just plain fear.
But is it worth it?
Yes. A million times yes.
With no previous general contractor experience my husband took on the job. And with no interior design experience, I have moved walls, added architectural details and worked with unexpected changes to the floor plan.
So while we still aren’t living inside our home, we are very close and we are very proud of ourselves and what we have accomplished so far. So in order to mark where we are in our journey I created a time lapse video sharing what it took to get the house to this point.
I hope you enjoy…

And just because sometimes we need a little inspiration and motivation to help us keep going and to visualize what our home could be, I asked ChatGPT to give my lawn a little landscape… I am looking forward to the day where my house can look this clean and charming.
