Neutral Home Decor DIYs

It is a New Year and we can finally see the end of the tunnel with the house build. I recently shared the exterior painting process and I cannot wait to start work inside. I have a lot of things I hope to accomplish this year, including catching up with all of my blog posts and then staying consistent with my posting. Fingers crossed.

I thought I would start off the year sharing some of my favorite neutral home decor DIY ideas. Some of them are super easy to make, others will take a little more time. Either way, they will add a nice touch and little bit of charm to your space this winter season. Plus, they won’t cost you much to make so that’s a bigger bonus.

And, while it may be a little obvious to some, if neutral colors are not your thing, you can always add your own colors to each one of these to suit your style.

The step by step tutorials for all of these projects are toward the end of this blog post. Or you can always just click here and watch right away.

First, I would like to share the bookends below. They were made from two old banisters I purchased off Facebook Marketplace for $10 and just one of several projects that I made from them.

I cut the top off one of the banisters and split it in two. Then with the addition of a couple of pieces of wood, I turned them into 2 stunning bookends.

The second DIY is pretty simple, but fun to make. I love using decorative spheres in my decor. You can easily add them to a vase or a bowl to add interest.

One of the easiest ways to create your own, is to use styrofoam balls and crafting or sewing rope. I even love using more than one type of rope at a time to create even more intricate looks.

I shared these in my Best Ever Rope DIYs video along with 11 other fun projects. The best thing is that anyone can make these.

Next we have these super simple seagrass napkin rings that only take a couple of supplies from your local Dollar Tree. While I don’t do many DIYs using Dollar Tree products anymore, this one is definitely worth it in my opinion.

It adds a nice rustic or even cottage like element to your tablescape and the fact that it is neutral you can use it throughout several seasons in the year.

This next one is a little more complicated.  Sometimes you want something in particular for your home, but either you can’t find it or it’s too expensive. Below is an example of just that. I wanted a round white washed mirror and they were too expensive at the time.

So, naturally, I created my own from scratch using just a few supplies.

I love organizing and having containers for all the things. Sometimes you have something that can be used as storage, but is just not aesthetically pleasing. For example, Dollar Tree has plastic bins galore, but they aren’t always so pretty.

So just like with the decorative spheres, you can using rope to cover plastic bins in order to give them more of a basket look. That is what I did below and you would never guess the bin was a bright red Christmas bin.

Sometimes,  you have something in your home that is outdated. Whenever this happens I like to see if there is a way I can give it new life. That is what I did with the decorative plaque below. You won’t believe what it used to look like before.

This next one is probably one of my all time favorite ideas come to reality. I purchased a leather purse from a thrift shop and it was a beautiful shade of green. I honestly didn’t care for the style of the purse and I didn’t plan on using it as one.

I bought it for the actual material and I challenged myself to make as many DIY’s from it. I managed to make 7 total. The cushion below was my favorite out of all of them.

Lastly, I had to share the mirror below. It didn’t look like this always, and right now it’s in my parents’ house. I made over one of my parents’ bathrooms while they were on vacation. It was the bathroom I used to use when I lived with my parents, and it looked the same way I left it many years ago.

The mirror I used to replace their builder grade mirror is the one below.

Needless to say, they were surprised when they got back. And I get to enjoy this DIY every time I stay at my parents’ house when we visit.

If you are curious as to how I made all of the DIYs, grab your favorite drink, sit back and watch the video below. I take you through them all below.

I hope you enjoyed these ideas and I will see you back here very soon.

Until then… adios!
